Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Met here with a walking group this morning and bought five cookies. Came back six hours and 10 miles later and bought four more. Everything was DELICIOUS. I might go back tomorrow for the eggplant parm!

Best Americano I have had in the Denver area (and this includes the hipster caffeine-loving spots too). I have to joke about how American I am when I am asked how much water I want in my drink. The basis of the shop is simple with a small menu for breakfast and lunch. If you order a sammich the bread is pulled from the bakery front and sent to the kitchen. Cookies, biscotti, and ZOMG napoleons too. I was not a fan of the tiramisu but I chalk it up to maybe not knowing authentic tiramisu so cannot ding this place for that.

The best pecan rolls around. Love the ciabatta. There is always a huge selection of baked goods.

Franco is a great guy. His kindness is only matched by his products, a collection of delicious desserts. I really enjoy all of the desserts I've tasted. Also, the lasagna is the best I've ever had (sorry grandma).

We made the trek over to this part of town to see what all the hype was about and bought predominately various types of cookies. All of the cookies were fresh and well made. My favorite was the chocolate chocolate chip and the rainbow cookies, but honestly everything was delicious. Another pastry that looks like a mini lobster tail was truly special. It had some sort of cheese/cream filling. The textures were perfect. Slightly crispy and flaky on the outside, soft chewy and light on the inside. My only complaints about this bakery is the remote location from Denver and the prices are at the very upper limits of acceptable. I guess they are able to get away with it because all of the bakery goods are pretty outstanding.

I'll be honest, I hate spending $16 a lb for cookies. But this stuff out of this world good. I suspect the baker channels the Sicilian God of Cookies for this one. I would love to know his secret ingredients for making super moist cookies in bone dry Colorado. My guess it's got ground almond and coconut flour but I don't know for sure. When I die, I want to be buried with Dolce's cookies for my afterlife.
(5)Rosie G.
Really amazing, authentic bakery. I come from a Sicilian-American family and these pastries remind me of the ones I used to get in Chicago with my zietta (aunt) as a child. I got some of their cannoli and sfogliatelle. Both were indescribable. The cannoli were like Christmas in my mouth. I was stunned at how high the prices were, but they can get away with it because the pastry is so unbelievable. I love this place.

Party in my mouth!! Dolce Sicilia is in my way to work, which isn't a good thing. I always land up going here in the morning to get my coffee and some goodies. The Raspberry Twist is always warm, buttery, flaky and delicious. I always buy the chocolate cookies (which taste like brownies) and the Amaretti a la fruta. Seriously, I can't describe how good this is. The complex flavors are overwhelming. Love, love, love it!
(5)E A.
great espresso, amazing Italian cookies, and the friendly owner served us in Italian. A connected wine store is a nice plus.
(5)Jenny L.
What can I say that hasn't already been said? I'm from New York, from a huge Sicilian family and even still I try my best to limit myself to visiting Dolce Sicilia every other week at a maximum, as every time I go in, I end up with enough cookies to last a month (but in reality last about 2 days because they are SO DAMN GOOD). Rainbows, cannoli, pignoli, oh my! Their Pignoli Amaretti cookie is, hands down, the best I've ever had. Their chocolate cookie - the best I've ever had. Their ciabbata - (you guessed it) the best I've ever had. It's divine to hear the owner's accent...and if I'm being honest, he really doesn't suck to look at either.

Stopped by after yelping for Tiramisu. Great, authentic tiramisu. This is not the fluffy, very heavy on the cream grocery store style. Well-soaked in coffee and liquor. We split a slice and that was plenty. We bought out the afternoon's tiramisu to serve a crowd. It was a big hit. Also had the cream puffs in the shop and a cannoli and biscotti. All fresh and delicious.

It's hard to find good bread. Big stores tend to charge a lot (ahem, WF) and there is nothing near where I live that's even comparable to WF. So when we saw the good reviews on yelp, we decided to drive 30 minutes to get some decent bread. It was a snowy early evening. Yelp says they close at 6. When we got there at 5:30 it's closed. We were gonna leave but we saw some people inside (probably family and friends). The owner saw us and opened the door asked us if we needed anything. I told him we want to get some bread and pastry. He let us in and was not rushing us at all. I happily made my purchase and left the store with a huge bag of baked goods. I recommend the cookies with whole walnut or pecan (I can't tell the difference). It has the texture of a French macaroon and not too sweet. Their bread goes well with Irish butter. 5 star for their after hour service and willingness to accomodate.
(5)Renee M.
We stopped in because our usual bakery was out of tiramisu. I got a piece of tiramisu, my boyfriend got a pecan cinnamon bun, and my daughter got a mezza luna cookie. The cookie and cinnamon roll were good. The tiramisu tasted old and did not taste or appear to have been made with lady fingers, but instead a dense cake of some sort. The cream and cake was even hard on all four sides because they pre-cut slices. The customer service was less than I expected as well, I assumed a small bakery would be a more inviting and personal experience. I think I'll go back to my usual spot.

After several visits, I finally got to try the Eggplant Parmigiana! It was good, very tender and tasted eggy, maybe even better with a tad less tomato sauce! I also bought a box of assorted cookies and can conclude the standout ones are the pignoli, they're so chewy, nutty, and citrusy! The biscottis are forgettable, unless you really like dry, mealy cookies. Another good choice is (I forgot the name) the disc looking flat cookies, half dipped in Chocolate. It's so crispy and chewy at the same time! Rick with choclate caramel flavor, mmmmm! Like I said before, I didn't prefer their version of more authentic tiramisu and cannoli, maybe because I'm used to eating the American way. I like mine with more cream than liquor (for the tiramisu) and fluffier yet firm (yes I am serious) ricotta filling than liquidy (for the cannoli). Nevertheless I'll keep coming back to this bakery, haven't tried all the breads yet!

Among the countless Italian delis in a 2 mile radius of central Wheat Ridge, Dolce Sicilia has plenty of competition. But this random gem in a strip mall distinguishes itself by opening up for breakfast with Lavazza espresso and Italian breakfast sandwiches. Around lunchtime, I recommend you get the mediterranean pizza, which combines the square shape and thicker crust of Sicilian pizza, but with toppings like feta and kalamata olives. Of course being a bakery/deli, there's a massive display case of baked sweets. Being more of a savory food craver, I haven't sampled them yet, but they look amazing. Wheat Ridge's aging Italian-American community seems to support the delicious and unpretentious array of delis in town, but Dolce Sicilia is also the only place I've heard Italian actually being spoken in the kitchen, too. So go and enjoy, and learn a little Italian.
(5)Lorie R.
I wanted this place to be as good as the reviews said. I grew up on real Italian bakeries in NY. I know what cookies and pastries should taste like and I was excited to find this bakery in hopes of having a near authentic experience. The prices are extortionary and the products are oversized and tasteless. Anisette toast equaled 5 pieces for $16 per lb!?! I'll order Stella d'oro online and get something that tastes right. I sampled the other cookies and pastries. Meh. The cookies are huge and this really isn't a good thing. I got 6 cookies for $16. I spent well over $100 on the real stuff on Arthur Ave in NYC in October (and cookies there were $14/lb) and actually came home with plenty. Two stars because the pannetone was pretty good. Someone here should take a trip to NY and learn what Italian cookies & pastries should taste like.
(2)Matt O.
This place is great! Everything they make is from scratch and you can taste it. I'm really enjoying their bread...as I write this. We had some breakfast sandwiches and they were yummy! I also got an assortment of cookies for the wife and I. All made from scratch, and maybe a little pricey. However, you're getting what you pay for. Nice little bakery near my new house, which is definitely a bonus for me!
(5)Denver G.
This is the Mecca for Italian pastries in Denver. Even the slightest mention of it brings about dreamy looks of sweet cannoli flashbacks from anyone who has been there. This place has become legendary-- I use it as a reference point when giving directions because everyone, near and far, knows exactly where the "Italian Bakery at 32nd & Wadsworth" is.
(5)Christopher S.
After lunch at Abrusci's, my friend suggested we try dessert at Dolce Sicilia. Naturally he had been there before so he cherry picked a Tiramisu. Not having been here before I could not resist the many temptations Dolce Sicilia had to offer. I left with a rather heavy (they charge by the pound) box, half of which was gone before I got back to work. I then found myself in the unfortunate position of being one of those people who goes around sticking a pastry box into my co-worker's faces insisting they try something. Mostly I was met with pleasant reactions after the first bite. The director of my department told me he hated me, as he scarfed down a chocolate cookie. This bakery is the real deal, I would suggest trying them, even if you have to drive across town to do it. They also sell pizza, lasagna and loaves of bread. It was all about the pastries on this trip. The pecan cookies, the chocolate, the mezzo, the cannoli - all stellar. Others have mentioned the pricing, but seriously, if your indulging in this kind of sweetness, the bill should be the least of your worries. I'll be back, to try other menu items based on this trip. Thanks Dolce Sicilia!

I may have to move to Wheat Ridge! Oh no, then I would gain a billion pounds! This place is hands down amazing, I cannot stop raving about how wonderful everything was! We recently took a food tour of the North End of Boston (America`s oldest and arguably most intact Little Italy) and of course that was amazing. The tour turned us on to an authentic and in their opinion the best bakery in the North End. Upon returning from our trip - I started feeling the need to track down some Italian eats in Denver. Thank to yelp I found this place and once I made time to drive over from Aurora I was there. FYI, they are now open on Sunday and till 5pm both weekend days, but since it is a far drive for me I would just call ahead to check. Run Down (This was showing restraint, I got an assortment of a few things to try over the weekend): It looks and smells just like the bakery we visited on our food tour, which was immediately encouraging. SFOGLIATELLE! So good! We ate these here and although they werent fresh from the oven (this was at like 3:30pm), they were awesome - exactly like what we had in Boston, with the most amazing textures. Mezza Luna cookies - great texture, wonderful subtle flavors, yummy chocolate Cream Puffs - Heaven! The perfect amount of sweet and soft! Great texture. Ciabatta Bread - OMG fantastic! Eat your heart out Udis and Panera, this is about 50 times better than that! Fruit Amaretti Cookies - STOLE the show - amazing texture, DELISH. I would highly recommend all of these things and will be back soon to try some more of the many options that they have - everything looked amazing! BTW, they have some really yummy looking Easter cakes - be sure to check those out if you can!

Took a box of goodies home from the Italian festival today. The price was outrageous .... $30 for a dozen treats. Here is what I liked and would buy from them again. 1. cannoli - it was really, really good. As good as the ones I had in Boston. 2. pecan cookies covered in powdered sugar - excellent. Would try again. 3. thumbprint cookies - I loved these. 4. the pine nut cookies are pretty good 5. chocolate brownie cookie covered in powdered sugar - they were okay, but way too much powdered sugar.
(4)Ming T.
Absolutely fantastic. I'm so glad that I decided to stop by this little hole-in-the-wall this weekend. I haven't had such a flaky sfogliatelle since visiting Carlo's Bakery. The cannoli was spot on, the shell was flaky and flavorful without being greasy. There was a nice cinnamon flavor to the dough as well. The Napoleon was enormous and delicious as well. I wish I had the time to try everything. The best were the pignoli cookies. So moist and covered in pine seeds! Yum. The baker is true Italian and the bakery is very homey- a great place to have a bite to eat. I didn't try any of the pizzas or calzones but they smelled amazing. Stop by the next time you're in Lakewood! Verdict: Cannoli cream dream!
(5)Paula K.
I can only comment on two things here because I haven't tried anything else but the two things that love I make frequent trips for and are worth yelping about. The Pignoli cookies. Best I have EVER had. Ciabatta bread. NOBODY makes Ciabatta like they do!
(5)George A.
The bakery is quite nice to look a t, but everytime I had a question on the fare they offered I was looked at as though I was an inconvenience :( I just was made to feel uncomfortable here. Sorry but I won't come back to try it again
(2)Christopher C.
this review is for two things, the tri color cookie, and the pistachio cannoli. 1) the tri color cookie- was more like cake, the chocolate was sooooo good and rich, the cake part was so moist it was some of the best i have had, even better than most places in NYC . 2) the cannoli- very good it didn't have the fruit inside which i do not like, and had just a hint of cinnamon. i got the ones with pistachios which is a nice touch. i do wish the shell was more crispy but it was definitely cooked enough, i think once it''s in the case it gets soggy. overall some of the best Italian baked goods so far here.
(5)Fran W.
Absolutely THE best Italian cookies in Denver. I am from NYC, grew up on all of these and Franco does not miss a beat. Great sfogliatelle, THE pastry of Naples. Cannoli, not cannolis, best of Sicily. Good pizza, bread, raspberry twist,Molto Buono!
(5)Eric S.
Best Ciabatta ever! Also makes a wonderful breakfast sandwich with ciabatta, Italian Sausage, roasted red peppers, egg and Provolone. Definately worth your time.
(5)Regina C.
Ho-ly cow! Tried a boxful with a little bit of everything at the Festival Italiano and their baked goods are to die for! Yes, they are pricey - but, as it is with all things, you get what you pay for. The first bite of anything tells you that they use only the best ingredients. Additionally, their booth was packed, yet the folks working the booth were still very patient and courteous. So, will I be back? Lets just say that we looked for their store on the way home so we could make the trip and try everything!
(5)Glenne W.
Delicious! I love the pastries and baked goods. We try something different each time, but I always get a cannoli because they are to die for. Expensive but so worth it. And the staff aree always nice and polite and helpful.
(5)Sharon W.
The best, no seriously, the absolute best cookies in Denver. The bread is heavenly, the cannoli are as good as the ones we get in Ferrara's in Little Italy when we're in New York, but the cookies are the stuff dreams are made of.
(5)Dave B.
March 2014 They now sell beer and wine in a semi-separate shop next door (wacko Colorado law). Emphasis on Italian wine (duh). January 2012 Awesome pecan-topped cinnamon roll. Super friendly service. Sports (in Italiano) playing on the radio. Great mood enhancement. Read the other reviews and ottenga la vostra estremità qui
(4)Caroline F.
Good lord in heaven. I don't give out 5 stars often, but this place earns every one of them. The sausage calzone blew my mind. Gigantic, perfect crust, stuffed full of huge chunks of sausage, spinach, onion, etc. I could have eaten the dipping sauce with a spoon- YUM. A steal for $6 (also comes with a bag of chips). The canoli was good, but my cream puff stole the show. I haven't had such tasty cream filling since I lived in northern NJ- my grandparents would buy the most delicious pastries and homemade donuts from a local Italian bakery every Sunday morning, and I would wolf them down. I haven't found anything that even comes close to comparing- until today. I am going to have to up my exercise regimen, because I want to come back here often. And try everything on the menu. Seriously.
(5)Caroline W.
I found the best Italian bakery in Denver!!!! Ciabbata bread is great. My favorite sweet treats are Canolis and Amaretti's. A Must!
(5)Julie C.
Sooooo good! You have to try this place at least once! Great coffee and the best Italian cookies and pastries!
(5)Amanda M.
The smell of baked goods that hits you right when you walk in the door is the best. It just feels authentic. I love that they have bread on racks and cookies and pastries sitting right on top of the counter, and hundreds of cookies/biscotti/cannoli sitting in their display case. We got a bear claw/sticky bun type thing, a very large black and white cookie, and a cannoli. The cannoli stole the show. At $3 it wasn't particularly cheap, but it wasn't expensive. Our total bill came to around $8.50 which isn't bad for 3 delicious pastries. I saw they also had calzones, pizza, and lasagna which all looked delicious (I think they were priced between $5-9). The man working behind the counter was very nice, and very patient while I stood there wide-eyed trying to decide what fatty goodness I wanted. I will definitely make a return trip to Dolce Sicilia-- just for a dose of authenticity.
(4)Tracie B.
Thank God I can't walk to Dolce Sicilia or I wold eventually pack on mega-lbs. Everything, and i mean everything, looks and smells delicious. Prepared foods including pizza by the slice along with a myriad of delectable bakery items and uber-fat pills make this place one of our "favorite-finds" in Northwest Denver. This bakery is truly a diamond in the "strip-mall" rough if you ask me. Oh, and everything tastes good also. Soooo glad I can't walk there.
(4)Brad P.
You'll know were that extra money went! Fresh and yummy canolis. Ciabatta bread to die for....
(5)Lisa M.
This is truly a little slice of Italian heaven. Francesco also makes a fantastic capuccino :) Now if only he would make sfogliatelle frolla; I may fall in love!
(5)Monty B.
The ciabatta was delicious and at around $4 a loaf a great deal. Good crispness on the outside (but not too crisp as to scratch the roof of your mouth) and soft on the inside. The cannolis were decent but pricey at $3.25 a piece compared to the ciabatta.
(4)Dawn M.
I happened to be in this area of town and thought I'd give Dolce Sicilia a try. Wow! I am certainly glad I stopped here. I bought a biscotti and two different cookies to try. They were in my car while I ran some other errands, and if anyone needs proof that they use butter in those cookies, just leave them in a paper bag! The butter stains on the bag are proof enough. When I tasted those cookies...pure heaven! I will definitely go here again. In fact, it may even become a destination for me on special occasions. Remarkable gem!
(5)Kate G.
Mama mia! I am in Italian pastry heaven. Yet another gem that I happen to live near by (yay, Wheat Ridge!), this is the perfect sweet-tooth cure. As other Yelpers have raved, the baked goods are absolutely to die for. I cannot go in without ordering an apricot and/or pinon amaretti, a pistachio cannoli, and any number of other goodies - and this, all after a yummy spinach calzone or Sicilian-style slab of artichoke, tomato, and olive pizza with white sauce (my mouth is watering just writing about it). They also serve Lavazza coffee, one of my favorites. Be prepared to rack up a substantial tab if you, like me, tend to get carried away ordering the pastries ($14-$15 per lb), and don't plan on dining in if you're expecting romance and fanciness. The atmosphere is actually quite pleasant, as they always have quiet music playing and charming little paper place mats decorated with a map of Italy, but the room itself is nothing to write mama about. Overall, Dolce Sicilia provides goods (nay, greats!) that are so savory, I seriously don't even care that everything I shove into my face from here goes straight to my thighs. Good thing it's within walking distance!
(4)Dennis M.
Yuck. Picked up some sfogliatella here thinking they were a legit italian bakery. To our horrible, when my gf bite into it found a hair and it was a false sfogliatella (no filling inside but solid maroon like bread). The leaf like dough was only the outside shell. I guess they either were too lazy or did not have the skill. Definitely, very very far from from Vinero's in terms of quality. Authentic my ass. Just some mid-western shit show.
(1)Rick M.
Oh god I love there tiramisu. I recently held a open house near the Italian bakery and was once again reminded why I love the place. First the bread that you can take home is delicious. The sausage calzones are my favorite lunch. Most of all though is the tiramisu. I buy my birthday treat here every year and enjoy the delicious tiramisu created in this great bakery.
(5)Rachelle S.
I enjoyed a FRESH pistacchio cannoli yesterday with a shot of espresso (Lavazza). It was homemade and tasted exactly like what you get in Italy. I'm looking forward to coming back in to grab some ciabatta and try a slice of pizza. Family owned and run by true Sicilians who know how to cook/bake.
(4)Brian R.
The pastries...are perfection. The atmosphere is simple, "family bakery" style. The raspberry twist will change your life...forever.
(5)Wiggly S.
Very disappointing sfogliatelle, it more like a faux sfogliatelle shell over a cake like bread inside. There is no filling. Pretty gross and deceiving. There is a reason the Front Range is not known for Italian food/bakeries. Other pastries and food were no that appetizing. You can get better at Whole Foods.
(1)Andye M.
So maybe I'm a lame-o for only sticking to what I know. But at $15 a pound, I wasn't feeling terribly adventurous. We headed here for a breakfast meeting -- 4 year old was happily occupied with a coloring book! I got a humongous sticky bun and a breakfast sandwich... protein is helpful for growing lil bodies. We also bought some cookies (4 for $8- eeks!) to bring home for hubby. Overall the food was good, a wee bit expensive but maybe I should have tried something they are really known for! I'll be back but with a full wallet and more curious taste buds.
(3)David T.
I don't get here as often as I would like because it is to hell and gone from my house in Wash Park - probably a good thing for my waistline. There was a talk thread today about Italian bakeries and it reminded me of how wonderful this place is. When I simply must have Italian baked goods, which happens this time of the year because I must have pannetone, this is the place to go. They've been named the top Italian bakery in Colorado umpteen times by some society of Italian baked good lovers and I totally agree. Great baked goods of all kinds - cookies, breads, biscotti, sfogliatelle, you name it - they got it. Yes, it's in Wheat Ridge but it's worth the trip. Normally I prefer French pastry to Italian but I am seriously rethinking that since visiting this wonderful place.
(5)D R.
Awesome canolis ... all the other baked goods looked delicious too. I go to the polish deli next door as well ...
(5)John M.
Malto Bene!!! We drive 18 miles roundtrip just for their long Italian bread loaves. Now, I know what you're thinking. "No bread is worth such a special trip." Well go 'gitch ya some,' before you judge me. Hands down the best bread in Denver that will make your knees quiver. Don't forget to score some panettone for the holidays. Ahhh baked goods Xanadu! Coolsville Colorado Learn or share more cool Colorado experiences at "Coolsville Colorado" blog or FB
(5)Tonya T.
It does not get any better than this!! I love this place. The food is always perfect and the baked goods are out of this world. The staff is always so friendly and the prices are right. I found it hard to find a good Italian bakery out here, but I now have. The quality of the food surpasses any other bakery around. The food is truly authentic!!
(5)Doug Y.
revised 3/8/08 Well, I still buy my bread here and on occasion a cookie or pastry but I don't do the sausage cannolis/calzones here anymore. Of course the bread wrap is good and the sausage flavor is fine but I believe they bake the sausage in a sheet and then slice it before wrapping it with their great bread. This usually works, but because of too much of a good thing (the sausage is almost two inches thick by two and a half inches wide and four inches long) the proportion of dry meat (double baked) to bread just doesn't work for me. Nit-picking I know but just thought I'd put it out there. You can tell a good bakery as you walk through the door. The aroma of fresh baked bread is an instant tell. We've tried several of their breads, their cookies, and their sausage canoli (I think they called it something else but it was italian sausage with a bread dough wrap). All were very good and really reasonably priced. I'm so used to Italian cookies being dry like biscotti that I was kind of surprised at the moistness of their cookies. I'm so used to the drier cookies that I think I kind of prefer them (go figure) but I think that's because of my infatuation with bean tea (coffee). Dolce Sicilia is another good place.
(4)Michele S.
I've driven by this place a hundred times and finally had a moment to stop in. I've been looking for a place like this since I moved from Michigan 10 years ago. The cookies are to die for! My favorites include the pine-nut covered one, the Florentine lace cookie, and the tri-colored cake cookie. The ciabatta bread put Costco's, Whole Foods', and my own to shame. My only grudge is that the chocolate cannoli use sprinkles instead of shaved chocolate or even mini chocolate chips. Will now go out of my way to visit this fabulous little gem! The Denver metro area needs more bakeries like this!
(5)Jenifer S.
Stopped in for luch today as I'm still new to this area. What a great little bakery. I had a calzone, which was a large portion, and very tasty. I then ordered some pastry for the road. Also got a loaf of cibatta bread, its excellent. Try it with the garlic sausage from the European Market next store to the bakery A++ I"ll be back!
(5)Kristine B.
Went just for the baked goods on a late Saturday afternoon. I was impressed that they still had baked goods available. The owner told me that he makes enough to cover for the whole day, not just the morning rush. Best cannoli I have ever had! --they use Ceylon (real) cinnamon rather than American Cassia cinnamon, so it gives it a much spicier flavor. Rainbow cookies are also very good, along with the sfogliatelle. I would go here a lot if it were closer to our house. Totally worth a trip to Wheatridge.
(5)Selene B.
It's probably a good thing that I don't live near this bakery because I would definitely pack on the pounds. I discovered this bakery at Festival Italiano in Belmar recently and I was just craving their baked goods. So two hours later I arrived and bought a variety of yummy baked goods. It was definitely worth the trip!
(4)Scott H.
I haven't been inside this bakery yet but my mom brought home some of their calzones and they were EXCELLENT. I can't wait to check out their desserts and I'll update this review once I do.
(5)Todd R.
We go there specifically for the Ciabatta bread which melts in your mouth. We have also tried the excellent Italian pastries and at some point we will relax and have a Lavazza coffee here.
(4)Tony P.
Best Italian Pastry I know of in town.
(5)Ryan M.
ONE WORD, SFOGLIATELLE! The Best Italian Bakery in town, our family of "off the boat" Sicilians regularly drives across town to take home several containers full of their homemade cookies and pastries. From fresh made from scratch biscotti & brownie cookies to Pignoli and Sfogliatelle. You have to try all of Franco's creations to truly appreciate how amazing this place really is. I only go for the cookies and pastries but they also serve lunch and dinner, which I am sure is delicious. It's just too hard to skip the two enormous display cases full of cookies to order anything else. PS - Per Their website they also cater.
(5)Emily R.
I was going to say that this is one of the few good pizzas I've had in Denver, until I realized...it's not really in Denver, is it? Anyway, the pizza at Dolce Sicilia, wherever it may be, is the exact kind of pizza I imagine when I think of an Italian bakery: square, with a light, crisp, breadlike crust; light on the sauce and heavy on the cheese. Sometimes Italian bakery pizza can be greasy, but this isn't in the least. My coworker had a calzone, which he inhaled, so I'm guessing it was good. I only got to taste the dipping sauce, which was perfectly suitable for pizza crust as well. The pastries looked amazing (although they were sadly lacking in garishly colored leaf cookies, oh well, it's probably for the best) and I will definitely be back for some cannoli and sesame and almond and farfalle cookies when the time is right (so, like...tomorrow.)

This is by far the best Sicilian bakery ever. We drive from Boulder just to get the pastries. The only thing missing is the string on the boxes. Everything is homemade and authentic. my favorites are Sfogliatelle, pignole cookies, canoli and everything else.
(5)Jessica S.
Best pignolis ever! 'Nuff said. I'll be back to try the bread...
(4)Andrew M.
Simple. Delicious. The focus here is on the food. Try the meatball sub! Homemade bread, homemade sauce, homemade meatballs. Everything is delicious.

The real shockers here were the outstanding marinara on the delicious sandwiches and the best slice of cheese pizza I've ever had in my entire life. We also scored lots of cookies for mom, which we ate, awash in guilty pleasure. Everything we've tried here has been a total delight.

Some of the best Italian food I have ever eaten! The owners are from Sicily, and the food is always excellent! Nice selection of fresh made breads and pastries that are always delicious!
(5)Jeffrey S.
This place rocks! Best cookies I have ever had. I'll drive half an hour, one way, just to pick up a pound of their cookies!

This place is great! One of the best Italian joints in the area, along with Pulcinella in Cherry Hills. Not much more that I can add besides that if you ever want "real deal" authentic Meatballs and Marinara Sauce, Dolce Sicilia is your place. Call ahead and they will have a nice, healthy amount of sauce to go along with the number of meatballs you requested. Trust me, the sauce and meatballs are to die for!

Amazing spinach calzones! And you have to taste the cookies to understand why people become addicted to them. These are all handmade cookies and pizzas and desserts - if you get your stuff from Costco or grocery stores and don't usually buy form Italian bakeries, you may be in for sticker shock, but these are normal prices, anyone who complains about this place being expensive means they generally shop in a completely different type of place. And Whole Foods does not come close to anything like this. They are slightly chewy, not overly sweet and just incredibly flavorful. At $15/lb (pignoli are made with almond paste = more $ than flour cookies), I buy some about every month and a half. I grew up on Long Island where there are a ton of Italian bakeries, and this one is amazing. The older Italian lady that's always there (one of the owners) is always nice to me, but I've seen her get a little short with people that just don't know what they want - they make her wait for them to decide. Kinda like the soup Nazi episode from Seinfeld - don't hem and haw at the counter, just be specific about what you want to know, if you're not sure what you want, step back and let her help others. Don't ask, "how mush is that so far?" every time you add another cookie to your order. I'm used to these kinds of places in NY, so don't take it personally and don't let it stop you from trying the food. I go in and order a few things every once in a while that I haven't tried, and I don't question the prices. The food is great, period. There are a few table and chairs inside but this is not a place for large groups.

best Italian bakery i've found a little pricey but were can you find cookies like these.
(5)G B.
incredible little italian bakery.....brownie cookies and napoleons are my favorite.
(4)FX H.
Friend bring me some pieces of the bakery. Great taste, price is little expensive. Try to come to the place but they have shorter business hour. Try again next time

It is SO delicious! Words can't describe it, my favorite's being the Raspberry Twist, Cherry Armeretti, and the Conoli. The cherry cookie is a very soft delicious cherry flavored cookie with a slightly crispy shell on the outer, and to top it off a candied cherry in the center. The Raspberry twist is a very flaky roll with raspberries and coconut inside. The conoli is almost impossible to describe, a sort of fried batter with an amazing creme in the center. When you first walk in you are greeted by a very kind person as well, who does not rush you to make a decision. As for the food items, the Mediterranean pizza is to die for, it's simply indescribable, you have to try it for yourself! One of the best things is you can get away pretty cheap at this place. We got 4 cookies, a conoli, a raspberry twist, and a price of Mediterranean pizza for less than $16. You simply have to go here.

Minchia. My family just left the house at 4:30, knowing that the posted hours at Dolce Sicilia state that they are open until 5:00 pm. My wife is pregnant...and sicilian. We were both craving some cannolis and the cannolis there are pretty good. We were very dissapointed to find the store closed at quarter to 5. I understand that many businesses choose to close early when business might be slow, who knows, maybe there was an emergency. But after such a let down, a note as to WHY they were closed early would have maybe made me feel a little better about it. I would like to add that the products at Dolce Sicilia are very good, they know what they are doing. But this was just very dissapointing, I would suggest maybe calling before trying to run out for a last minute cannoli!!!

I've been on search of great cannolis closer to home in the bay area and on every trip of mine after trying the cannolis at Mike's Pastry in Boston. Nothing compares until this place. They're still not Mikes but so close and so yummy. I ordered many other goodies too. I was in heaven with every bite. This is the best Itailian Bakery ever. I only wish they'd come to the bay area.
(5)Valerie M.
Great Italian cookies and pastries. Awesome pizza.
(4)Julia B.
Got the calzone sausage sandwich and a sausage cannoli and it was incredible. So good. Bread was perfect, sausage was perfectly spicy and sauce was perfect. So good. Sausage sandwich was perfection on a plate. Also had the macaroon cookie. So amazing and perfect. Place was spotless. This is one of those places that I will always go to if I am anywhere near that area. So friken good.
(5)Emily M.
This place is the BEST!! So delicious and irresistible! I always get a big ciabatta loaf and whatever strikes my sweet fancy that particular day. Never disappointed with this place. Yumma!!!!! Sheesh, Yelp....how long does my review really have to be? Kinda ridiculous that you can't put up a short and sweet review of a place. It's great, why say more?? Go to there if you want delicious Italian breads and pastries!
(5)David B.
I stopped in here last week for lunch after running some errands. I'm a sucker for just about anything Italian, and this place didn't disappoint. I had some of their homemade lasagna, which came with a side of their sourdough bread. Good stuff! Had some of their tiramisu for dessert too. On top of the good food, the customer service was friendly and personable. Will definitely stop by here again next time I'm in the area!
(5)Krystal R.
I've past by here a million times and this week I finally stopped in. From their amazing pastries to their lunch items, this place is delicious. The sausage sandwich is the best I've ever had!!
(5)Marnie O.
Best cannoli I have had in Denver. Fell in love with these delicious desserts in Boston and have been searching ever since to find the same in Denver. I don't have to look any more will be back to try more of their food.
(5)Lise F.
Bought some pastries & had coffee here this week. One box-full of Biscotti (approx 10"x10"x4') and a raspberry twist, which were just okay, & 2 cannoli's which were very good. The coffee was also good. The primary reason for this rating? The price was $41 and change - Yikes!!!

I really love this place, I find myself stopping all the time for just a little sweet treat. I always have to pick up a pistachio Cannoli. They have a good selection of wonderful desserts. There food is also delicious, I enjoy it all. They do have the best cannoli and sausage cannoli in the wheat ridge area.. I highly recommend to stop and give it a try, you will enjoy it.

I am so happy that the house we are purchasing is a mere five minutes away. My mom and I popped in for a quick lunch. By quick I mean that I inhaled my food and she finished hers in the car. We had an appointment to boogie to. The bakery is small and unassuming but packed with delicious. My mom got a veggie pizza and I ordered the spinach calzone. We started with dessert first - a rainbow cookie. It was love at first bite. I am a huge fan of marzipan and really any almond flavor. This cookie reminded me of marzipan cake. Holy smokes was this good. On to the savory food. The tomato sauce that was put on my calzone was among the best I've had. My moms pizza had a light and crispy yet perfect crust. We both raved about our meals.

We biked to this place from our house for lunch and it was amazing! Everything is freshly made everyday. The marinara sauce was delicious. We had the spinach calzone and sausage calzone, both were yummy! They have tons of Italian pastries and breads. The place is steadily busy which shows what a gem it is. Can't wait to try the cookies next time, too full today! :-) We will definitely be back!

We LOVE this bakery! We are pretty much addicted to coming here. Everything here is amazing. Best cookies, best bread, good coffee, good people and good food. We are especially addicted to the breakfast sandwiches here. We are here.....a lot. The owner is super sweet and everyone else who works here. This place is such a gem!

I was very excited to see the outstanding reviews of this bakery- However, It was far from the best I've ever had. It was the first time I didn't finish my cannoli. The filling was fair, but the shell was soft. My brother picked up two eclairs. He tossed one after a few bites. I took a bite of the second one. It was not fresh. If I had to guess, It was made 1-2 days ago and kept in the fridge. I'm not from the area so I can't make a recommendation on where to go. Cheers!

I have driven by this place so many millions of times I can't even count them, but I finally stopped in on Monday to get some cookies to go because I have heard good things about them for so long. The hubs and I decided to get a couple of things to enjoy throughout the week. He got a cannoli and a brownie cookie. I got a mezza luna cookie and a apricot one that I don't remember the name of. I am totally not a cannoli person but with one bite of it I was in love. I also liked the brownie cookie a lot, so the hubs chose well and I am glad that he is okay with sharing. They were all tasty but I liked his the best! I'm sure we will be back again for more delicious cookies sometime here soon!

One of the best things about this part of town is the bakeries. Three very different and good Italian ones within a mile. This one excels at baked meals and true Sicilian flavors. Bread is fresh and flavorful too....
(5)Ant B.
Authentic Sicilian desserts, breads and pizza. They have the traditional Italian chocolate eggs for easter and are far better than any other Italian shop in Denver.
(4)Karl B.
Large variety of delicious pastries. Easy to access location, and the owner is very friendly. Most things are $15 per pound, but we're talking very authentic pastries - the cook is from Sicily. Tasty and recommended!

This place really does live up to the hype. We visited during lunchtime on Saturday, and, although it was busy, there was still a place for us to eat in-house. We ordered a meatball sandwich and a sausage sandwich. Each came with some chips, but the drink was separate. My meatball sandwich featured ciabatta bread and freshly-made (I'm assuming) meatballs that had tons of good flavor. The same applied for sausage sandwich. I felt like the portion sizes were just right -- not so much that you still feel hungry, but not so much that you have to take any leftovers home. For dessert, we split a cream puff, and a tiny cannoli with chocolate chips. Both were so, so yummy! I think the same cream was used in both desserts, as it was super sweet, with a delicate almond flavor. We'll be back!

A nice, cozy bakery. The ciabatta looks outstanding, although I haven't tried it yet. Same with the food and other baked goods. I went in just before Christmas to buy a panettone, and it was the best panettone my family has ever had. Not dry like most, a great chew, and just enough flavor from the candied fruits and nuts. A great loaf for sure (definitely will buy it again next year, although their pandoro looks just as good..). I'll return for sure, just be prepared to pay a little extra for high quality products. But given what it is (and it's local) I don't have a problem paying a bit more.

I drove an hour in the first seasonal #snowfall for #Cannoli and #almondCookies. On the way out, picked up a bottle of #Regaliali #Bianca from the #TascaD'Almerita estates. Great chat w Franco whois a #Palermitan. Still hungover from a recent trip to #Sicilia #Italy, this was a great find

Just discovered and devoured every morsel I walked out with. I've been in many "Italian" bakeries and it just does not get as legitimate as this. When you walk in, you're greeted by racks of freshly baked ciabatta, baguettes, bread galore. Also staring at me the moment I walked in were the pizza and calzones. Around the corner, there are trays and trays of delicious looking cookies waiting for you to take them home... I was suddenly very nervous about this amazing discovery, for my health and my waistline. I ordered a sausage & veggie calzone (which I had mistaken for Stromboli). The little lady was kind enough to warm it up for me. It comes with some lovely marinara sauce (ain't no jarred pasta sauce) that was simply some of the best I think I've had. It was the best thing to accompany my calzone; sweet, savory, tomato-ey goodness. Ah, to die for. All of it. No crumbs were left behind. Also got the tiramisu and a cannoli. Every time I go to an Italian bakery, the tiramisu is a must-try for me since it's my fave. This one is a little different. More cakey, and you can taste more spices. Sort of tasted gingerbready to me. I guess it wasn't my favorite because it's not what I'm used to, but still good. Chocolate chip cannoli anyone? I don't usually have cannolis; I don't have any expectations of them and no, I've never had the ones in Boston. Despite all that, I thought it was pretty dang delicioso. Flaky exterior covered in sweet, heavenly powdered sugar; beautifully stuffed with creamy luscious filling and topped with mini chocolate chips. Can I get another one please?

I've been here a few times in the past month. The people who work here are really nice, and the lady didn't laugh at my horrible pronunciation of the names of the cookies. I tried the amaretti alla frutta and the farfalletti. I think the farfalletti was my favorite, as it reminded me of the cookies my aunt made. They were similar enough that they were a comfort food in a difficult time. The cookies are expensive, but they are so worth it. I'm glad I stopped in, and I'll be coming back every few months for a treat.
(5)Taylor V.
Possibly the best Italian sausage sandwich I've ever eaten. The meatball was amazing as well. I was in a hurry but next time I am not leaving without picking up some bakery items like bread and dessert.
(5)Phu T.
Everything is fresh, hand-made, like that McDonald's Big Mac you're about to eat. No, wait. This place is definitely worth checking out, and you can also get your cremation errands done at the same time! Multi-tasking prowess.
(4)Ramon G.
Delicious breakfast sandwiches on their amazing ciabatta bread. Speaking of the bread...their baked goods are ridiculously good. Their ciabatta is perfect. Nice crust yet soft inside. The sweets are awesome as well. I can never leave without grabbing a few cookies. And yes, the Cinnamon rolls are as good as they look. Not overly sweet or loaded with retarded amounts of frosting...just perfect. I see they have some dishes as well. Lasagna and eggplant parm. Definitely gonna give it a try one night.
(4)Mary D.
Amazing! Absolutely amazing! Every thing here is great an the service is extremely friendly! I just tried the coffee and it was wonderful!
(5)Leza F.
Oh. My. DAMN! The raspberry twist I got from here this afternoon is to DIE for! I can't even come close to finishing it, so I've taken a few nibbles off of it in between bites of Polish cheese I got from Sawa next door. Pricey, but my gawd was it worth it!!
(5)Teresa L.
Stopped in today after driving by for years. Cute little shop (little being the operative word here), lots of different types of cookies. Pizza and some calzone-y things in the case. Very clean and tidy. FANTASTIC tiramisu!!! Authentic!!! Lady fingers actually tasted like they're soaked in espresso and liquer, as they should be. SO many places skip this step and chintz out and just dump coffee on it, like it's all the same. SO not the same. I'll have to come back and try them for lunch, then I'll increase my rating if the food is anywhere NEAR as good as this tiramisu!
(4)Carla H.
I was having a serious sweet tooth and talked my mom into trying this place out. The woman behind the register was so sweet and an authentic Italian grandma. Her son makes the baked goods. We each had a slice of pizza, and it was really good. Then we each chose two cookies a piece. I had a canolli and a mezza luna. I will be dreaming about those desserts. So yummy! The atmosphere was very laid back and comfortable. I can't wait to try the other kinds of cookies. :)
(5)Evie J.
Beautifully displayed classic Italian bakery items. My sister and I went for breakfast goodies and everything was delicious! You can look in the glass displays, make your sumptuous choices and eat them at a cozy table.
(4)Robin B.
I have been in Dolce Sicilia at least once a week for the past few months and highly recommend everyone try this place out! I believe I have tried about every baked good they offer and everything is amazing. With out a doubt the very best ciabatta bread in town.
